Izzy Li Kostrzewa (they/them) is a Taiwanese and American artist and designer from Mt. Pleasant, MI currently based in Brookyln, NY. Theyare exploring textiles and create work utalizing vintage Asian and American textiles. Kostrzewa’s visual world speaks to a unique upbringing and mixed cultural identity, growing up Asian American in the rural midwest. The work combines whimsicality, with a Solarpunk worldview. Solarpunk is a movement working towards a better relationship between humanity and the Earth, and cultivating a radically optimistic outlook for our future. Kostrzewa is interested in exploring religious imagery and spirituality through a Queer and Christian lense.
Kostrzewa is the founder of the brand Isaboko, a garment making project dedicated to transforming vintage kimonos into new pieces, using zero waste patterns and gender free design. Kostrzewa has shown work at festivals in NYC, LA, San Fransisco, Chicago, Tampa, and Denver.
